A Practical Workshop for Budding Flower Farmers and Growers
Growing for Pleasure or Profit
Location: Pulvertoft Flower Farm

Sun 10th July 2022
10.am - 3pm
£75
(inc all materials and lunch)
Barbara Lohoar (Ashwell Flower Farm) and Fiona Paxton (Pulvertoft Flower Farm) invite you to a practical hands-on workshop learning how to plan and set up your flower farm, cutting garden or allotment growing spaces, what to consider growing and when.
After a welcome cup of tea or coffee and introductions we’ll start with a tour of Pulvertoft Flower Farm looking at and discussing how the infrastructure has been created. We’ll then discuss and work on some specific infrastructure projects to give you the knowledge and confidence to take your next steps. Together we’ll create a no dig bed from scratch and while doing so we’ll consider all the variables involved including how two different flower farmers have approached their bed making and the results they achieved. We’ll include sourcing and layering of soil and compost, growing through fabric, staking, netting, frost protection and more.
Over a light lunch we’ll continue to find out about each other's plans and plots, and swap ideas and approaches – it’s a great opportunity to meet other growers at the same stage as yourself.
The afternoon session will look at the year’s planting plans and sowing times and you’ll also learn what both Fiona and Barbara have been growing in detail. We’ll finish by sowing some seeds that you can take away with you to start or add to your growing patch.
Fiona and Barbara began their respective businesses in 2020 and are working hard to promote local grown flowers, the sharing of knowledge, protecting the natural environment and reducing carbon footprints.
All materials and lunch and cups of tea will be provided. Please advise any dietary requirements. We also have a small shop of products and plants that will be available to buy after the workshop.
